The Philippines remains the most disaster-prone country in the world, a distinction underscored once again in the 2025 WorldRiskIndex. Its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire and the typhoon belt makes it highly vulnerable to earthquakes, floods, and tropical cyclones—events now intensified by the global impacts of climate change. On average, the nation experiences 20 tropical cyclones and around 20 earthquakes every day, many of which have the potential to cause widespread damage.
In November 2025, the country faced one of its most severe humanitarian periods in recent memory. As recovery efforts from the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu are ongoing, two typhoons struck The Philippines within a week. Typhoon Kalmaegi, which swept across the Visayas region and Typhoon Fung-wong, which swept across Northern Luzon.
Combined, these disasters affected millions, damaging infrastructure, homes, and roads while overwhelming local emergency capacities. According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, immediate needs included temporary shelter, access to clean water, food supplies, and medical assistance.
Recovery efforts are ongoing, with national and international humanitarian organizations mobilizing to support displaced communities and restore essential services.
Local Filipino American organizations in DFW are doing their part to ensure families in need get access to food, clean water, and hygiene kits. Through the efforts of the PACC Texas Foundation, with support from The Pilipino American Community Endeavor (PACE), FILCON, and PACC-TX Region 1.
