Jason Robertson, a professional ice hockey player for the Dallas Stars and one of the NHL’s most prominent Filipino American athletes, is central to a growing effort to recognize Filipino heritage within the North Texas hockey community as the Stars prepare for their first upcoming Filipino Night collaboration during the 2025-26 season.
The event, organized in partnership with the Pilipino American Community Endeavor (PACE), is intended to celebrate Filipino culture while introducing new audiences to the Stars and to Robertson’s career. The initiative reflects both Robertson’s personal background and the franchise’s continued focus on engaging diverse communities across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where ticket sales go towards funding a local Filipino Community Center and town space.
Robertson, 25, has established himself as one of the league’s top forwards since being drafted by Dallas in 2017. He has earned multiple NHL All-Star selections and has consistently ranked among the team’s leading scorers, including reaching the 200-goal milestone earlier this season. His on-ice production has made him a focal point of the Stars’ offense and a recognizable figure within the league.
Robertson was born in Arcadia, California, and developed his game outside traditional hockey markets, advancing through youth programs in Southern California before moving into elite junior competition. Drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft, he progressed steadily through the organization and made his NHL debut in 2020. His ascent was marked by immediate impact, earning the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie in 2022 and establishing him as one of the NHL’s most productive forwards. As a player of Filipino descent, Robertson occupies a rare position in professional hockey, where representation from Southeast Asian communities remains limited.
Within the Stars organization and the broader NHL, Robertson’s role extends beyond scoring totals and accolades. He has become a visible example of hockey’s expanding pathways, particularly for fans who did not grow up immersed in the sport. As the Stars continue to compete at a high level, Robertson remains a central figure on the ice and a point of connection for new fans discovering the game through his career.
Beyond his performance, Robertson has also drawn attention for his Filipino heritage. His mother immigrated to the United States from the Philippines, making Robertson one of the few active NHL players of Filipino descent. He has spoken publicly in past interviews about balancing his cultural identity with the demands of professional hockey, according to previously published reports.
The Stars have acknowledged that interest from Filipino American fans has grown steadily as Robertson’s profile has risen. Filipino Night, taking place March 16th, is designed to build on that momentum. The event will include group ticket opportunities and cultural recognition elements aimed at welcoming Filipino Americans who may be attending a Stars game for the first time. The night is intended to highlight shared community pride rather than serve as a promotional showcase.
