The Core Topics of Discussion

While there are many essential topics for understanding and empowering the Filipino American community in DFW, we have selected 9 topics to focus on. Each topic reflects a critical piece of daily life—from the preservation of identity and intergenerational connection to access to services, civic engagement, and financial stability.

By addressing these issues openly, we can identify shared challenges, uplift underrepresented voices, and build solutions that reflect our values and lived experiences. These conversations are not just about visibility—they're about shaping a future where Filipino Americans are fully seen, supported, and included in the growth of North Texas.

Arts & Culture

Preserving and promoting Filipino arts and culture in DFW helps build identity, pride, and representation in a multicultural region where Asian American narratives are often underrepresented. Focusing on this ensures future generations stay connected to their heritage while fostering broader community understanding.

Education & History

Filipino American history and contributions are largely absent from local curricula, which can lead to invisibility and misrepresentation. Advocating for inclusive education empowers youth, strengthens cultural pride, and affirms our place in American history.

Family & Community

Strong family values are central to Filipino identity, but many face challenges related to caregiving, generational gaps, or isolation in diaspora. Addressing these dynamics helps sustain intergenerational support and community resilience.

Health & Wellness

Filipino Americans face unique health disparities, including high rates of heart disease and mental health stigma. Culturally competent healthcare and wellness education are essential to improving outcomes and access.

International Relationships

As dual citizens or immigrants, many Filipino Americans are directly impacted by U.S.-Philippine relations, visa issues, and overseas remittances. A stronger understanding of international policy helps families navigate cross-border challenges.
